Help me give my students the opportunity to participate in the Maker revolution. Students will use the Makey Makey (Makey: An Invention for Everyone for Joylabz) to create inventions and the document camera to share with everyone.
My students love being engaged in scientific investigations and inquiry. My students drive my passion for teaching science. My students are diverse in backgrounds and cultures. Many are low-income and we are 100% free lunch and breakfast. The area is suburban-rural and there are 2 junior highs that feed into a larger high school. The students come to 6th grade from 4 different feeder elementary schools, so many are just meeting each other for the first time. Our junior high has about 850 students and I teach about 150 per year, in 6 classes of 28+.
The students in the area I teach come from diverse backgrounds and cultures, but all are able to speak the language of science when presented the opportunity.
My students' love for science learning allows me to continue my learning through professional development and bring activities for higher-order STEAM learning back to them. My students love these memorable opportunities to participate in such activities that stay with them even after they leave my classroom.
My Project
STEM, STEAM, Maker Revolution--all buzzwords that are here to stay! And students need to learn strategies earlier than ever before. The 4 items I have chosen for this project include the classic Makey Makey set, a book with 20 ideas to get them started, and a document camera for them to share and record their own projects on the "big screen".
Students will be encouraged to create Maker inventions throughout the school year and through different strands of science topics (space science, physical science, and life science).
Help me give my students an edge by joining the Maker revolution early! Thanks!
