My Students
Everyday I'm surrounded by motivated and creative 11-12 year olds. They are very excited and inspired as they enter middle school. My students come in with different challenges such as poverty, academic, familial, or just adjusting to their rapidly changing bodies.
Our middle school is in Huntington Park in the Los Angeles County.
My students, who are mostly minorities, have the ability to compete in the fast growing world of the 21st century.
My Project
My 6th graders love reading! By reading this classic The Outsiders, my students will be able to relate to the characters. This will motivate them to read and entice them into the love of reading.
We have read two other novels this year and they are very excited to have another novel to read.
They could not wait to read more. "One more chapter please..." "Can we just stay here to read?"
This project will let the student go in to critical thinking mode by using reading strategies and discussions in book clubs. The gift of reading is really priceless!
