My students come to school to learn, be loved, and become productive citizens. They do their best with what they have but there are some students who still don't have the materials needed to be successful in the classroom. A majority of these students are low-income and are unable to buy additional supplies.
My students are bright, willing, and flexible.
They try their best with the materials they have and share even down to their last items. They inspire me everyday. I often hear acts of kindness as students share their supplies, knowledge, and friendship with each other. From helping a struggling classmate to asking me how my day has been, my students never cease to amaze.
My Project
My team and I service 180 students in 6th grade between our respective subjects. Over the past few weeks we have noticed students running out of supplies and unable to purchase more. Students need basic supplies to be successful in the classroom like pencils, paper, and binders to organize themselves. Students are coming to class without pencils to write with, notebooks to write in, and even dried out dry erase markers (no pun intended).
My students have a heart for helping others even when they have little left to give.
I frequently hear students helping one another on their work, lending any supplies they can, and generally taking care of one another.
We have a dire need to replenish these supplies so students can continue learning and feeling successful. All the supplies in this project will be placed in a supply closet and freely given to any student in need of supplies. With these supplies easily at their fingertips my students can continue learning without pause, embarrassment, or confusion. I am asking for pencils, highlighters to use in organizing textual evidence, folders to keep homework organized, binders to house classwork, notes, and handouts, crayons and glue for projects, posters, and art projects; dry erase markers to practice math, vocabulary, and play test review games; erasers to fix mistakes; loose leaf paper for final writing pieces, assignments, and notes; composition notebooks for brainstorming, writing rough drafts, and writing notes; spiral notebooks for note taking in math; index cards for vocabulary terms; sticky notes for exit tickets, taking notes in a text, and personal reminders in their lockers and agendas; and tab dividers to organize binders.
