My students need to go to Science Camp to build critical thinking and collaboration skills.
This project expired on May 22, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
6th graders at my school are raising funds in order to attend a 3 day overnight camp with Sierra Nevada Journeys. Although these kids live in beautiful Lake Tahoe many of them will never have experienced the outdoor adventures, collaborative work, and social bonding outside of school structures.
For the 25 students in the class the cost breaks down to $216 per student.
This includes all meals, transportation, and highly engaging lessons that help will help in their emotional and scientific abilities.
All lessons build critical thinking and collaboration skills while including experiences in: engineering, pond ecology, ropes course, forest ecology, astronomy, geology, storytelling and night hikes.
Students will create experiences that will guide them as growing young adults. They will be involved in group problem solving, team building, and independence building. Students will explore scientific and environmental concepts through conservation practices. The inquiry-driven, hands-on, student centered, and highly engaging lessons are led by highly trained and credentialed educators.
We want our students to understand and progress in their understanding of core environmental science concepts.
They will have a better grasp of scientific concepts and be better equipped to apply similar critical thinking skills in both academic and social skills. Each student's experience will be unique to them, therefore allowing their young minds to prosper.
