My Students

Our 6th grade class is made up of approximately 90 students in an urban area school. The student population consists of 100% free or reduced lunch with a high population of African American, Asian and Hispanic students.

Our students come to school eager to learn and are highly motivated.

Students at Nicholas Elementary are motivated by projects that are hands on. Nicholas students learn best when they can apply what they learn in class to the outside world, which will have a greater impact on their learning.

My Project

This adventure to Golden Gate Campus of Naturebridge will reinforce the Science curriculum taught in 6th grade as we study Earth Science. What better way to experience rocks and minerals than in the coast of San Francisco? Social and Emotional Learning goals have also been embedded in the curriculum that we will study during the trip. Students hike through the dramatic landscapes of the coast. Through inquiry-based learning, students are immersed in the geologic history of the San Francisco area, engage in field research projects such as water quality monitoring, and discover their own personal connections to the natural world.
