This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 6th grade ELA students are in need of a variety of different reading level books. My students come from low income families, and many families are not educated enough to read to their children at home. Our school does not have enough of the reading resources we need to allow students to read books on their reading level. The neighborhood the students live in/go to school in is not the safest place for them to live. I would love for all of my students to do well on school so they can better their lives and living situation.

My Project

I would like books on a variety of levels for my 6th grade ELA students. I started teaching ELA this year and had to build my library based on limited resources at my school. Several of my students are severely below grade level and are reading books that are too difficult for them. So, I would like to have books on their level so they finally enjoy reading and not get so frustrated! I would also like to get some high interest books for my higher level readers. My students also LOVE book club, but we need more chapter books to accommodate the different reading groups in my classes.
