Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As our music program grows and our students learn, their lack of proper equipment is becoming a detriment to their learning. Our students, almost all of whom receive free and reduced lunches and come from low-income households, love playing music and are looking forward to another year!
We started two years ago with an empty classroom and are slowly adding in the instruments our students need and deserve to expand their knowledge and love of music.
Students in all levels, from ECE to 5th grade, find joy and excitement through playing instruments, singing songs, dancing, and exploring music. Many of our students are enamored when they get to do anything as simple as touch the keys of a piano. Music has been proven to improve test scores and strengthen the learning of our students, and it is something that has been taken away from many of the students in underfunded schools throughout Denver. With your help we can create a program designed around our students' needs with the variety of instruments they deserve.
My Project
Our students have excelled at learning chord progressions and songs on the ukulele and are ready to expand their learning. From the first day we started playing ukuleles, students were excited to start playing guitar and now they are ready!
The guitar is such an iconic instrument, used for song writing and self expression, and is a great place to create a love of music and connect to students' interests.
No other instrument is as connected to the idea of being a rock star and our students deserve to shine.
They love learning and writing songs on the instruments we currently have and want the opportunity to put their hands on a guitar. Help them learn their favorite songs and challenge them with two more strings.
