Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 21st-century learners. They use mobile technology every day. In many cases, they feel more comfortable responding to video essays. Movement, technology, and inquiry learning is becoming more common in their daily classroom experience. Collaboration and team building are the driving force of their day. Their drive for success is evident in their academic achievement. The families at our school are hardworking and dedicated.

Academic success is crucial to the well-being of kids and their families, especially in working communities.

In addition to innovative learning instruction, our school strives to give our students the basic needs, such as breakfast and lunch, family counseling, a virtual dentist, clothes and school supplies. Our students deserve an optimal environment for learning with the latest technology and innovative layout design.

My Project

One of the driving concepts for a 21st century classroom is flexibility. Students are able to make choices about what they learn and how they learn it. To help with collaboration, we've slowly slabbed together a mixed-matched configuration of tables of all shapes, sizes, and heights. Unfortunately, this setup has created a cluttered classroom, with little room to collaborate effectively and safely, and minimal storage for personal items, books, and materials.

As the prospect of returning to our classroom during the pandemic becomes imminent, it is imperative to create a safe and socially distant learning environment.

COVID-19 safety precautions are being implemented and now more than ever safety is at the forefront of our plans. With these new desks, I hope to create a space where students can sit six feet apart, minimize their time spent traveling between storage bins, or maneuvering around a hexagon table, and avoiding coming into to close contact with classmates. With these new, metal-box storage desks, students will have their own work space and storage. They won't need to move out of their seats to retrieve their materials, therefore more time is spent on learning. When it is safe to create partners or groups, these desks will allow for collaboration, but since the desks are matched it will create more organized groups with the same height and size table groups. Easily maneuvering throughout the classroom will allow me to safely support my students when they need me. Classroom layout and flow is important to setting up a productive, socially distant, and safe learning environment.
