Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is my 14th year teaching in a low-income school district. My classroom is full of diverse learners. There are 30 amazing 5th graders, to be exact! I am inspired by their eagerness and determination to improve. Since we will start this year virtually, I want to make sure my students have everything they need to be successful. With the current unexpected challenges caused by the pandemic, extra support is more important now than ever.
Motivating my students during virtual learning is a major priority for me right now, and I've been able to keep my students working hard with the simple act of writing and sending letters.
My Project
Now more than ever, connecting with my students is incredibly important. Since we are learning virtually, and I don't get to greet them at my classroom door....so why not greet them with letters? To keep my students motivated, I've been writing them notes and sending them postcards with flat goodies inside to inspire them to keep working, trying, and improving. Postage and materials start to add up, but I don't want to stop! That's where you come in, please help me keep this old-school snail mail tradition going!
During virtual learning, I have found that students absolutely LOVE to get mail!
Honestly, most 5th graders have never gotten mail before...so it's a big deal! Help this tradition continue through the pandemic, so I can continue to put smiles on my students' faces when they learn from home.
