Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As students age through their adolescent years, they begin to learn unhealthy, and potentially aggressive responses to situations they are uncomfortable in. Creating a calming area in the classroom will help students de-escalate before they react.

For some students breathing and reminders are enough, but others may need mindful coloring sheets, snacking or rehydration, or even to unlock their creative tactile mind with kinetic sand or model magic.

Whatever helps defuse their high emotions and disrupts their harmful or negative thinking patterns, we want to be sure they are provided in the classroom. With access to these items in the classroom, students won’t have to go to the office or speak to the counselor right away. They can practice regulating themselves and their nervous system in the classroom and return right away to learning!
