Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We have a high energy grade level that typically moves at a fast pace. I want my students to master the standards and the biggest challenge is the lack of resources we have. “The playing adult steps sideward into another reality; the playing child advances forward to new stages of mastery.” ~Erik Erikson
My students are an amazing mix of small adults, hungry to learn.
They are composed of our future engineers, writers, actresses, singers, professors, and scientists. My students have great sense of humor, they are dedicated, hard working and aim to please. My favorite time is watching their brains explode while doing hands on activities. They get so involved in everything they do. It is typical to hear them debate their views and express why they are right and how they came to their conclusions. We work as a team and almost every aspect of our day involves talking among one another and moving around the room. The school is wonderful school located in a great, quiet suburban neighborhood.
My Project
Classroom transformations are the way to go! The overall growth with student enthusiasm, vocabulary, and their capability to learn have been life changing not only for them, but for me as well... and all from adding just a little "magic." Many of the transformations are simple and consist of setting up a restaurant, adding a few tablecloths, and turning on some music. As you can see, this one is a little more expensive for my teacher salary, but would be unforgettable.
Learning CAN be fun; I'm requesting materials to set up an Italian Cafe as we master language and math standards using hands-on materials to show they understand the concepts.
My students will walk in to our classroom set up as an Italian Cafe. Not only will all the decorations be up, I'll speak a little Italian, blast some Italian music, and we will work on language conventions, writing and measurements until we have them mastered. What will they work for you ask? Their own personal chef hat of course! I would have loved to learn this way as a kid!
