My Students

Our school is situated in a beautiful northern California community. The school serves students in grades K-5 with a rigorous academic curriculum provided by dedicated teachers and supported by involved parents. Our goal is to set a foundation for our students’ success in high school, college and the world beyond. As a result, we are a high-performing school.

My students are a group of artistic and imaginative 5th graders who love to create and work together.

Picture a classroom of energetic, kinesthetic, and visual learners who love new challenges with hands-on activities. My class is filled with talented students who have a broad range of interests, needs, and learning styles. They enjoy working independently and collaboratively to solve real world problems. I find that when I integrate the arts with the academics, they respond with greater enthusiasm. They grasp new ideas with eagerness when the concepts are tied to real world skills.

My Project

My students will leave 5th grade not only knowing the standard skills of computing volume but also understanding how volume relates to real-world problems. The students were given the challenge to design a new and creative Jelly Belly candy box. Taking into account the number of jelly belly candies they wanted to fit in a box, the students used Tinkercad technology to create a 3-dimensional candy box and evaluate the shape and dimensions for its area and volume.

Now it’s time for them to see their creations come to life and print them in 3-D!

Having the additional PLA Filament will give all my students the opportunity to print their creations using the 3-D Printer. I would also like to include the 3D geometric shapes to use as hands-on and visual aids when reviewing the concept of 3D volume.
