Our school district is set in a small, rural town of about 5,400 people. Our students, however, come from extremely diverse backgrounds. Some have great-grandparents who lived here when they were young and some have moved here with their whole family to start a new life. Living in such a small town can sometimes limit certain experiences that students can have throughout their school career.
With nearly 80 percent of our students on free or reduced lunch, our students deserve hands-on learning experiences!
Science is much easier when you can see it, touch it, experiment with it, and do it! My kiddos, no matter what their background or language, can benefit from science that they can DO!
My Project
At the Ozark Natural Science Center, you live science for two days and one night!
Our students will get a chance to test water quality, classify different types of animals and plants, use radio tracking devices, gaze at the stars and so much more!
The teacher-naturalist's activities are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards, so everything that my students learn is taken right back to the classroom. Our group last year learned about the interactions between earth's spheres; how the biosphere affects the hydrosphere, geosphere, and atmosphere. The naturalists also informed our students about predator-prey relationships by showing real live examples in their natural habitat and playing food chain games.
This is more than just a field trip. For some of my students it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience science like they've never seen before.
