My Students
Our 5th grade classes are dynamic environments that foster inquiry based learning. We believe that all students should have equal opportunities to explore and create rich academic experiences. In order to accomplish our work, we ask that all students have the same materials to learn & grow together. As a learning community, we decided it is important for us to share all the supplies. This teaches kids to have a sense of ownership over their community and understand the power of supporting each other's learning.
My Project
This project was created to give all children the tools to excel in our 5th grade learning community. By donating materials to our 5th grade classes, every child will begin the school year ready to learn without the worry of acquiring personalized school supplies. This project provides comfort to families and students by ensuring that all kids will have exactly what they need throughout the school year. It also allows families to spend more time with their children throughout the summer instead of rushing around to find items on the class supply list. We 5th grade teachers strongly believe that this is the most equitable and efficient way to collect school supplies for the upcoming school year!
With this project, ALL 130 5th graders will have: notebooks, folders, markers, pens, pencils, highlighters, erasers, enough copy paper for the entire school year, paper towels, tissues, hand soap, construction paper, disinfectant wipes, dry erase markers, Post-Its, staples, glue, flair pens, and more. These materials will be used to engage in daily lessons in all content areas. They will then use these materials to grow and revise their ideas. By gathering our materials collectively, the kids and classrooms are able to receive more materials at a lower cost than purchasing them individually. It's a wonderful solution to an usually inequitable task.
* Suggested Family Donation: We suggest that each 5th grade family donate $70-$80 per child, to cover their family's cost of supplies. This will ensure that you will not have to buy class supplies in the fall, but only a few special personal items for your child. If you would like to donate more to sponsor another family, please feel free to do so.
