Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These videos are a very good way of presenting science and nature information. The videos will be used to provide my students with a dynamic introduction to concepts that most of my students will never experience. These are high quality video presentations that will far surpass the outdated videos that our Title One school has to offer currently. For example, one clip discusses how we fly. This is one of our SC standards, but since 64% of my class is on the "Free Lunch" program, they will most likely never experience flight first hand. We also study other concepts of Force and Motion so the video on Roller Coasters will teach about gravity, motions and many forces that will be very exciting for them and also something rarely experienced.
I have 14 students in my class which is an ideal number of students to watch and discuss these videos. I would love to expose these well-behaved young people to so much more than they would normally see. All of these videos will be shared with other teachers in my school, so that all 266 students at Lone Oak will benefit greatly from this purchase.
So many of the teachers here try to show these students what the world has to offer and how great and exciting things are outside of the little area that they know. Too many of out students at Lone Oak will never see a roller coaster or airplanes or the Grand Canyon to study sedimentary rocks, but they will see the latest technology at work if they can see these curriculum clips and really understand and process this new information up close for the very first time.
