Our school has over 50% open enrollment, which means that parents are choosing us as the school for their children. Around 50% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. Our students come from a variety of ethnic, socio-economic, and academic backgrounds and most of them have been attending our school for several years. All of our students know about the 5th grade field trip to Young AmeriTowne and look forward to the time when it is their turn to attend. This year is no exception!
My Project
Young AmeriTowne is an educational program to help our 5th graders learn about business, economics, and free enterprise in a fun and hands-on way. Teachers and students spend six weeks in the classroom introducing and learning about concepts such as supply and demand, job skills and work habits, banking procedures, democratic processes, civic consciousness, and career awareness. Then, at the end of the six weeks, the students head to the Young Americans Financial Center to spend their day practicing these new skills and running the town.
They have the opportunity to learn and practice skills that they may have no other role model for in their lives.
These skills are crucial life skills for them and by funding this field trip you will be giving them the opportunity to understand the importance of working and managing their money so that they can work to experience financial success as an adult.
