Welcome to Mrs. V's classroom! In our room, we are striving to always be our best, safely surrounded by organized chaos. My diverse class comes from a high poverty area. Many of my students have few outside of the classroom learning experiences. School is a very important part of these kids' lives. As an educator, I find it important to provide high-quality education for my students, as well as opportunities for growth and experimentation.
My 30 student 5th grade class craves opportunities for learning outside of the 4 cement walls that make up our classroom.
They face many challenges that could get in the way of their learning, but together we face those challenges and work to overcome them. Our school is an International Baccalaureate school, which means we strive to challenge our students to become lifelong learners, think for themselves, take responsibility, and make a change.
My Project
Students will experience fun and enjoyment in the outdoors, improve their understanding of ecological, historical, and teamwork concepts, expand both their “comfort zones” and their realization of their own abilities, develop a realization of how human actions affect the environment, develop an attitude of personal responsibility for the health of the environment, and strengthen their social skills and self-confidence. The bags will be perfect for our hikes through nature, the flashlights will light their way to the bathroom at night and during night adventures, and the cameras will allow for all students to capture lasting memories of this amazing experience.
Students will participate in environmental studies while expanding their conflict resolution, team building, leadership, and communication skills.
This will be a great end of the year experience to have as these 5th graders leave their IB elementary school before entering middle school. This trip will require many of the IB traits we have been studying all year, including being a risk-taker, communicator, and inquirer.
