Help me give my students a new book club set of "Ground Zero" and books that will benefit addressing social issues and understanding historical events through historical fiction
I am so proud to teach a group of young, hardworking middle school students. They all have great personalities and they bring their unique backgrounds into the classroom every day. They all rise to the occasion when talking about sensitive subject matter like social issues and history.
All of my students come into class every day motivated and excited to learn about new things.
Even though they are in 8th grade, they are mature and growing exceptionally in front of my eyes throughout the year. I have learned so much from this group of students. They all bring fresh perspectives on the difficult subject matter and allow me to grow as a professional educator. I come to work every day excited because of this group of students.
My Project
In my class, student are exposed to sensitive social issues and historical events. It is important that they are exposed to these topics through literature, especially in regards to what they are learning about in English and history. With these books, students will be able to draw on historical events and social issues so that they will become more aware of the world in which they live.
The copies of "Ground Zero" by Alan Gratz, will be a great addition for my student's historical fiction book club that happens each spring.
Being a history teacher and having been alive during the tragic events that transpired on 9/11, it allow me to educate my students in a variety of different ways. These ways include my personal experience, historical perspective and through the eyes of two youths who are being portrayed in Gratz's novel.
As for the other books, they will provide my students to read about social issues that open there eyes to the world. it is important that students have access to great pieces of literature. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
