Our title 1 school is nestled in the heart of Michigan, where many students come from low economic backgrounds. That never stops our kids from being excited about their opportunities at school. I have never had such a creative group of students who are constantly surprising me in the best ways. Every 5th grade student is at their own level in different subjects but works very hard to achieve the learning goals.
In our class, we have a very strong foundation of community that makes students eager to come to school every day.
My students truly carve their own path in their learning. I have never had students so motivated to grow!
My Project
This project is to help all of my students, but with an extra focus on my students with ADHD. Flexible seating is important for students to feel comfortable and to be able to get their wiggles out in an appropriate way. Having structure with this is key to running a productive class and the colored lights will provide rules to our new seating arrangement. Also, having dry erase reusable sheets will aid our classroom in becoming green in saving paper. The more we use these pockets, the more routine and structure will come from the items. This is going to come in handy with the new seats in different places around the room. These sheets can travel with the students to fit their needs.
Our classroom needs structure with helpful guides and comfort with flexible seating options.
At the end of the day, students need structure and want comfort to which this project is able to provide the best part of both of those classroom worlds.
