Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a high needs school in South Los Angeles. My students are primarily English learners from a low income community. My students face many challenges both in their school and community. I am determined to give my students a memorable beginning to their academic careers. Seeing their smiling faces eager to learn every morning inspires and motivates me to give them the best possible experience. When they walk through our classroom door every morning, my focus is to teach them to their fullest potential and see them for what they can and will become in the future. When we are together in our classroom, we leave the outside world behind and make the most of our time together and learn from each other in a respectful and pleasant manner. We have fun together!
My Project
Foundational skills begin in kindergarten. This is when students grow their love for math. Having various math tools will assist my students in growing their passion as mathematicians.
Young children learn through play.
Having a variety of math tools to practice their math skills will maintain students interest and give them different and creative ways to solve math problems. These math tools are easy for small hands to handle such as the large foam dice. The unlock it! Number match gives students the opportunity to use their critical thinking skills to solve problems and later equations. The jumbo buttons and easy grip pegs teach students to sort which is the foundation for multiplication skills.
