This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a diverse class of 4th grade students at a Title I school in New Haven, CT. Our district is currently undergoing severe budget restrictions, so our classrooms are not often outfitted with sufficient resources for optimal learning.
My students are all incredibly bright and motivated to learn.
Our school is a project-based learning school, which means that we learn through experience and experimentation! I have gathered many supplies out of my own budget for my classroom, and would appreciate anything additional you have to give.
My Project
'Wonder' is an incredible book for any elementary classroom. This book teaches students valuable lessons about difference, diversity, bullying, and friendship. Through the eyes of a fifth-grader with a physical deformity, readers will learn about the emotional impact that every word can have.
My students are always eager to step into the shoes of a new character and view the world from different perspectives.
I hope to use this book as a whole-class read aloud for the third quarter of our school year. Students learn best when they can follow along with their own texts. Therefore, I am asking for a generous donor to help purchase a class set of this inspiring book.
