My students need a new desktop computer to assist them in mathematics, reading, writing, and science.
This project expired on May 5, 2012.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My class is eager to use technology in school, but my classroom computer is outdated. It does not support the new technology and desperately needs to be replaced.
I have a 4th grade class with 21 students.
Many of them have specific learning disabilities and behavioral needs. My students are learning to write multi-paragraph essays and book reports. They attend a culturally and economically diverse K - 5 school which is a non-Title 1 school. We receive virtually no funding for extra learning devices. Despite this setback, we have a high API score. We are applying for the California Distinguished School Award. We continue to strive toward increased achievement in all subjects.
The desktop computer that is in my classroom is outdated and very slow, making it difficult to use for my 4th grade students. A new classroom computer will allow us to use the technology that is incorporated in my district's language arts and mathematics curriculum. The new technology will provide individualized assessments and intervention for my students. Finally, an updated computer will allow me to perform the necessary benchmark district and state assessments. It will also allow me to progress monitor the students that require intervention on weekly basis. It will allow me to differentiate student instruction and teach to specific learning needs. My 4th graders will continue to work towards meeting or exceeding the California State Standards. The computer will also be used to access the Internet and allow my students to do research for their social studies and book reports. The use of technology is a huge motivating factor for my students and will greatly improve my class.
The use of 21st century technology in education is providing many new learning opportunities for my students, but my school does not receive adequate funding to replace old computers.
A new desktop computer in my classroom will have a positive impact in my teaching and student learning. Please help me open up an updated world of technology for my special needs students.
