My Students

Do you remember what is was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations and peak their interests. Lois Lowry and her intriguing novel, Number the Stars, will captivate my students leaving them wanting more.

My students are bright, interesting, energetic, and they have a love for learning.

They also attend a high poverty school where funding is not always available and therefore, they often go without valuable material that could help further their learning.

My Project

Having a classroom set of Number the Stars by Lois Lowry will help my students in so many ways. As a class, we will be able to sit and read together, to encourage one another, to learn together, and to support each other in our journey to comprehending complex texts. This particular novel will also teach my students about an important time in our nation's history. I know that by teaching them how to read and understand a novel will eliminate their fear and inspire their mind.

Please help in getting each of my students their own copy of this novel so that they can begin to view reading as a pleasure and not as a nuisance, so they can learn how to conquer complicated texts and not stay away because of fear and feelings of incompetency, and so that they can learn to enjoy reading and allow it to open so many doors in their educational career.
