I have 18 students in my class this year.
We are the largest class in our small public school of 76 elementary students. This year's class really enjoys reading books. They like to go to a corner and read during their DEAR time, but I only have 2 bean bags to share. They also like to give each other math problems and spelling words using their marker boards instead of paper and pencil.
My Project
I have 18 wonderful minds to nurture, and I don't want to have any of them idle. Our school in rural SD is facing budget cuts, so I have reservations requisitioning things like bean bag chairs and marker boards. I have found some at garage sales, but none this year. This project will provide bean bags for comfortable reading centers and marker boards that are not marred from previous use. The students will be able to go to centers to read, practice math problems, and study spelling words. We will also be able to use the marker boards in class group activities led by the teacher. The students will learn how to cooperate and help one another review or learn new concepts. Cooperative learning at its finest.

I really feel that the more time that students spend actively engaged in learning environments, the better that child will strengthen his/her personal being. Providing educational activities is the main part of teaching, and I want to be sure that my students get every opportunity that others get in larger schools. These items will provide me with a comfortable, safe environment for centers in my classroom.
