My Students

I get a new group of about 22 - 25 4th graders each school year. I am looking to enhance instructional time for all subjects with a horseshoe table. With other tables, I often have difficulty seeing what my student/s was/were writing/reading/working on without actually standing up and looming over.

At the horseshoe table, every child will be close to me.

It is easier to monitor and/or assess all the students' work with no problem. I can fit individuals and groups at the table. This will allow me to meet the needs of more students at a time.

Most reading tables are kidney-shaped...I am too short to reach my kiddos at a kidney-shaped reading table so I need a horseshoe table! The horseshoe table will also allow students to interact with each other, write on the table and allow me to see their work because their work is closer to where I am sitting at the table.

My Project

Bringing my students to a magic markerboard horseshoe table for instruction with me will increase my instruction time and allow me to specifically meet the needs of a particular student or group of students. It will allow for collaborative work and give them a space for creative discussions. They will also be able to write on the table and use the space to work out problems. Having students in close proximity will increase student attention and focus, which will help increase academic achievement. Now, more than ever, I need to work hard to close the achievement/learning gap due to students missing school because of the pandemic. Being able to have a space for intense instruction, 1:1 instruction, and small group instruction is essential to their success.
