Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have twenty-seven amazing 4th grade students in my class who come to school eager to learn and challenge their thinking every day. Our school consists of children from a variety of different countries and cultures. I have students from India, Mexico, Vietnam, Ethiopia, El Salvador, and Honduras. Many of our students and parents are newcomers to America and are eager to learn English. My students end up being teachers for their parents and are often translating and teaching them what they are learning at school. Our students are happy and working hard to embrace their new culture as well as maintain their own identities and cultures. Our school consists of 80% of our students qualifying for free and reduced-price lunch. However, we want to show them that poverty is not a deterrent to their learning capabilities.
My Project
These materials will add 4th grade recommended text into our classroom library, The Literacy Teacher's Playbook will be able to help support me in enhancing my literacy teaching abilities. This allows me to use the Go-To books in tandem with the resource here are 15 new literacy books that will help students in fiction and non-fiction. The Conferring With Readers Supporting Each Student's Growth book will help me improve the ways I confer with students. This will allow my students and myself to set individual reading goals to accelerate reading comprehension. Overall, this project will help my current students and future students.
