This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of my students come to 4th grade below grade level. This is partly due to life circumstances beyond their control. Many are impacted by poverty and language barriers. ALL 4th-grade students receive free lunch. One-third of them are ESL learners. However, most of them are eager to learn, but need 'something extra' to help them get to the next level.
I teach in a low-income school district with a very diverse population.
This year I would like to expand my classroom's Math Workshop. Through discussion and reflection we've come to a consensus that 4th grade students can further close their achievement gaps if they were able to practice what they've learned in more engaging and interactive activities. While some students are using their Chromebooks/tablets to access our online math curriculum at their ability level, I will continue to meet with small groups to differentiate learning while other groups are practicing what they've learned via math flash cards and games.
My Project
Fun and interactive task card activities will motivate students to try harder as 4th grade math is complex. Using the task cards will allow students to have more hands-on experiences during learning as well as allow me to assess students' growth/mastery levels in a different way. Today's generation love to play games of all sorts, therefore I want to incorporate STEM games and task activities to make math more fun for them.
By donating to our project, you will help my 4th grade students improve and increase their attention and desire, which will ultimately increase their academic achievement.
My desire is for students to anticipate coming to math class to learn new skills in a fun way. I want them to enjoy their learning experience this year more than ever before! I am excited for an opportunity to enhance our 4th Grade Math Workshop.
