This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are new to me this year and I am new to them. This is my first year at my new school and I got to meet some of their shiny, bright faces at Back to School Night recently. They all bring their own energy and knowledge to the classroom, and I can't wait to build on those strengths and see what they can do!
My students need to feel loved and supported in our classroom and making our space a welcoming environment goes a long way in building student/teacher relationships.
The more organized and comfortable our classroom space is, the better I can teach my students so that they can learn each day.
A lot of my students come from really tough backgrounds, and school is one of their safe places where they can be themselves and know that they are loved. I want to value each of my students for who they are and what they bring to the world, which is a lot of energy, passion, and (as all 4th-grade teachers know) a whole lot of humor.
My Project
With these materials, my students will be able to learn in an organized and comforting classroom. Each of these items will be valued and appreciated by everyone in our class.
My students deserve a full, colorful, happy classroom to enter!
The art supplies will help them to create visual representations of what they are reading and writing about. The USA carpet will serve as both a place for reading and a visual representation during our US Revolution unit. The organizational bins will maximize our time together and keep things tidy. The flex bands will help those babies that need some more movement in their day in order to learn.
