Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year I am beginning mentoring a girl group for 4th and 5th grade girls. I work in an urban district where my students face many challenges. Among those challenges is how girls relate to each other and how they see themselves. I am looking to positively affect these young women and help to empower them. In turn teaching them how to empower each other.

In a world where girls seem to thrive on being mean to each other it is my mission to begin a change. Part of this change is to begin self reflection on how their behaviors and words affect others and then how to change that mentality.
The girls that have signed up for my group are willing and want to learn how to better relate to their peers and how they see themselves. These girls despite their environment want to do better. I hope you will help us on our mission.
My Project
The seating will help us have a more comfortable environment. The more comfortable our environment the more the girls will be able to express themselves. Instead of sitting in hard seats they will be able to enjoy discussing our topics in a more flexible fashion.
The book, journal, and magazine will help give the girls in the group a voice.
They can find girls to relate to either in the book or magazine. The magazine can help show how girls like themselves can accomplish their dreams. The journal will help give them an outlet for writing down their feelings and experiences.
