My students spend a good part of the day on a large carpet in the classroom. This carpet is tattered, stained and has seen better days. We're hoping to upgrade from the drab, solid color carpet we currently have to one with colors and shapes for even more opportunities to learn throughout the day.
I teach four year old kindergarten in Northeastern Wisconsin.
This is the first experience that these children have with school, and I want it to be special. My classroom sets the tone for the remaining years they will spend in school. It's my responsibility to instill a love of learning, and I think I do a pretty good job. And in return, these children provide some of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I've been doing this for over 20 years, and wouldn't trade these kids for anything.
My Project
As I mentioned, our current carpet is in pretty rough shape. To be able to replace it would be a huge improvement to our classroom.
The carpet is where we begin and end each day, and there are activities throughout the day in this and other areas of the room. A new carpet will be more comfortable, help us define the space for each child, and provides much needed sound absorption with a classroom full of 4-year-olds.
The specific carpet we've chosen helps build color-recognition and shape-identification skills as they sit on the yellow triangle, hop on the green square or freeze on the red rectangle.
Plus, it's adorable!
As you can see, these carpets are pretty expensive.
Hopefully you can also see the value in having such a great tool in our classroom. A comfortable environment promotes the best learning, and this carpet will go a long way to helping provide that. Thank you so much for your time.
