Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school has recently taken on the initiative to provide AP courses to an expanded range of students. For the first year, we are offering AP classes to special education students in a Integrated Co-Taught setting. The goal is to prepare ALL students not just for graduation, but to become successful at the collegiate level and in their respective career fields. Our school understands the importance of technology, evidence based thinking and collaboration with our community in achieving our goals.
In my AP class there are 19 students, where 8 are classified as students with a learning disability.
Three of our students are English Language Learners and only four have access to technology outside of the school building.
My Project
At our school, we have decide to provide our special needs students who have traditionally been ostracized and excluded throughout the history of American Education, with the opportunity to become exposed to collegiate material. As a title I school, our school struggles to provide students the needed resources to be successful. My AP students struggle to obtain technology both in school and at home. Providing laptops to my students will help my students obtain the necessary skills for college and increase career readiness in a world reliant on the use of technology. This project will allow us to focus on learning as opposed to the sharing of 1 laptop cart with the entire school.
