Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a third grade teacher in an Equity+ School. Because of the diversity in my classroom, many of my children are at different academic levels, a reality which requires me to differentiate my instruction for each student. To help me better serve these students, I would like to have several sets of Reader's Theater books, which will allow the children to have different "roles" to play as we read stories together. Acting out these stories will help them turn their every day dramatics into something that can improve their reading! I am also requesting several "follow along" strips - these are bookmarks with pieces of yellow plastic that allow the children to mark their place in the book and help them to follow along with our reading, my moving the yellow strip to each line of text. Finally I am requesting a set of books by Gail Gibbons for the children to read and learn more about the history of Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas. With these materials, I feel I can better turn my dramatic children into fantastic readers! Thank you for your time and consideration of my proposal.
