My students need engaging reading centers, including vocabulary riddles, fluency partner scripts, a character trait match activity, and games for nonfiction comprehension, to prepare for 4th grade and COLLEGE!
This project expired on August 6, 2011.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Everyday my students are reminded that they WILL go to college in 2020 when they graduate. Their current location does not have to be their destination. Our message is strong and we will not give up!
My class is full of our future teachers, chefs, police officers, doctors, vets, artists, and lawyers.
Each child is unique and full of the potential they need to achieve their dreams. Our school is 98% free and reduced lunch and many of our students are classified as homeless, so supplies from home are limited.
My students need engaging reading centers, including vocabulary riddles, fluency partner scripts, a character trait match activity, and games for nonfiction comprehension, to prepare for 4th grade and COLLEGE! As we prepare for the End-of- Grade Assessments, which determines whether a student is ready for the next grade, it is essential we keep engagement high. These reading resources will help to create centers where students can be creative and test their comprehension skills on fiction and non-fiction reading materials. Students will be able to analyze characters and events using the Character and Mood Resources. With the tiles of traits, I can differentiate the activity to meet the needs of my students. With the Reading Comprehension Activities, students can get hands-on with reading by creating creative comprehension materials. The Mystery Kits are so cool! My students love being detectives and using clues and background knowledge to solve mysteries and determine meanings of unknown words. These resources will allow my students to learn how to work independently and cooperatively, while improving reading comprehension.
Did you know that data from the number of retentions in 3rd grade determines the number of jails needed to be built for the future?
Our message needs to be strong that college is their future and each day is meaningful. These resources will help send the message that reading is fun and they can be successful with hard work and dedication.
