This year will be a big change for me! I will be moving to a new school, which is Title I. This means that my school has over 50% of students that receive free or reduced-priced lunch. My school is very culturally diverse, and need to be represented in our library books.
I want my students to have access to beautifully written and illustrated books that celebrate their culture and success stories.
The last four years, I have had the pleasure of teaching 5th graders. My students have been amazing and courageous, with big hearts and curious minds. They are all so eager to learn, but what do they love the most? Reading! It is my job as an educator to continue nurturing a love of reading in my classroom.
My Project
This year, I'm teaching 3rd grade for the first time, in a gifted-blended classroom with students who have very different interests and varying reading levels. It is important to give my students a classroom library where they can find the perfect book to get lost inside. These books will be read in our class, as well as read at home for nightly reading.
I truly feel that every student can be a lover of books, but some have yet to find that one that sparks their interest.
This collection contains book series that are award-winning titles and high-interest books that will reach all students. I have included all the new Sunshine State Young Reader Award books, popular book series, and books that contain diverse characters.
