Our elementary school is located in a small community in a lower socio-economic area, and we serve a diverse population with multiple cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Many of our students receive free or reduced-price lunches, and several receive bags of food each week that they take home to help ensure they have proper nutrition when they are not at school.
Our classroom is a diverse community of learners; many of my students come from low-income households, but they do not let their lack of material things have an adverse impact on their zest for life.
My kiddos love to explore and learn, and it is my goal as their teacher to be their guide. I am so excited to be on this journey with them!
I want to be able to entice even my reluctant readers to enjoy our literature circles this year and take ownership of their learning. I hope to provide each group with a wide variety of books on their specific reading level from which to choose their group’s book.
I want to give so many exciting options that my kiddos can’t decide what they want to read first; that they are so excited about the selection of books, they can’t wait to finish their current choice and move on to the next.
I want my students to fall in love with reading this year!
