Can you imagine watching a program about using current technology to improve your life and career, knowing that you might never get to experience using that technology. Our students live in a rural area, and seventy-one percent or more are eligible for free or reduced lunches. I want to give them access to materials and equipment that will help them realize the possibilities out there.
My students would love to expand their horizons in the area of STEM and STEAM activities.
They have only fast food, service jobs, and possibly office/bank jobs to look forward to in this area. Those jobs give valuable work experience but do little to give students meaningful experience in using technology to design, create, and produce something of their own.
I am the librarian and my students have free flow between their classes and the library. Having a 3d printer and an up-to-date laptop in the library offers them the opportunity to experience technology that isn't available to them elsewhere. It also gives them a calm place in which to learn new ideas and apply them in creating something.
My Project
Students at MHS need a Crealty 10S large format 3d printer to expand their work with 3d print. They want to see how far their designs can take them, such as printing parts for motors (small engines). A 3d pen will give them the ability to create by hand as well as to repair any 3d print issues.
Students are getting into 3d printing and there is no limit to their imagination.
They need the opportunity to see all the possibilities of 3d print--from tinkering to creating artificial limbs.
Students really want to see what is available for them in the world. They don't get to see much in the way of technology, except at school, because the area is so poor. This is a chance for them to see if their future lies in technology and design.
