Help me give my students the SUNLU and Hatchbox PLA 3D Printer Filament they need to 3D print their current proposed Moon Camp habitats and future projects they design.
My middle school students live in a small supportive community, however, their families are far from being affluent with over 50% qualifying for free and reduced lunch. Some are coming to school ready to fully engage, others have many real-life overwhelming obstacles to overcome before they can be ready to focus on learning. My students do enjoy independent work as well as team collaborations, and they love helping and supporting each other when the learning is tough.
They are curious, enthusiastic, and very creative; my students especially love creating new artifacts using applications in different ways.
We use a variety of learning strategies, especially when they are being introduced to a new application. They have an elbow partner and a share group as a first line of support to ensure that their needs are met more quickly. They are fearless as we walk through the steps of a new application, one step at a time together. They are curious, persistent, creative, and take pride in their work.
My Project
My middle school students are super innovative. They just created from scratch a Stop Motion video (Digital Citizenship Theme) using Google Slide features: shapes, color, lines, and text. They love having independent choices to demonstrate their learning. Our new Moon Camp Challenge involves learning about resources and dangers for successfully living on the Moon.
They have researched, taken notes, compared their findings and now they are creating a design proposal for their Moon Camp.
They are learning how to use Tinkercad and will translate the 2D design their group agrees on, into a 3D artifact. They will each be responsible to build and print a section of the camp and then use Green Screen to narrate how their camp will keep them safe while thriving on the Moon. My two 3D printers will be very busy over the next few weeks and I want to make sure that I have sufficient PLA filament to meet their needs.
Creative Collaboration and Critical thinking will be implemented as the teams Communicate and justify their designs.
