Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from a diverse range of cultural and economic backgrounds. We have a well-established dual-language Spanish program and the majority of our students receive federal free or reduced lunch. Our school was established over 60 years ago and there is a strong sense of community that ties everything and everyone together. Many of our parents and teachers attended the school themselves. Even our school principal is an alumna!
Above all, our students are kind and compassionate.
Every day I witness small acts of kindness between students that build and maintain our strong sense of community. Our campus exudes a warm familiarity and students are eager to smile and say hello to both their peers and their teachers. It is a privilege to work within such a kind and caring community.
My Project
Over the past year, I have worked tirelessly to create a functional STEAM Learning Lab for our school and for our students. Our Lab is now up and running and ready to grow! I would like to add a simple 3-D printer to our space in order to allow students a chance to design and then create personal medallions. During the long standardized testing window this April, I will be able to meet with students in the STEAM Lab for multiple sessions and I would like to use this time to design and print with a 3-D printer. I have found an entry-level 3-D printer that would suit our needs perfectly.
The process would allow students a window into engineering design and they will each walk away with a medallion of their own design and creation!
