I teach an energetic and eager group of second-grade students in a Title I school. My students come from many different cultural backgrounds, speaking languages such as Vietnamese, Cantonese, Spanish and Chinese.
Our classroom is always full of movement, reflection, imagination and growth.
These first and second graders are so eager to learn and expand their knowledge and skills in language arts, math, science, art and technology. These students practice important habits everyday: be proactive, begin with the end in mind, but first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand than to be understood, synergize and sharpen the saw. It's exciting to see their young minds nurtured into responsible and caring individuals.
My Project
The Toybox 3D Printer is user friendly and perfect for young 2nd graders who have never experienced 3D printing before. It is advertised as “the first easy-to-use, one-touch 3D printer for kids to design and print their own toys”. The Toybox app has a “creator space” compatible with IOS that will allow my students to create different designs in a user friendly environment. It is the perfect tool to help young students experience the complexity of 3D printing from design, slicing, troubleshooting, to finished product. Giving students the ultimate tool to create and design rather than simply consume will be a powerful learning experience.
As technology moves forward and more career options are opening in STEM, we need more opportunities for our students to practice the skills necessary design and engineering.
3D printing will give students a unique experience in design thinking, engineering, and bringing their 2D creations to life as a 3D model. Thank you for your consideration.
