My students need 3D printer supplies - colored filament, replacement bearings, C-clamps with swivel pads, two print removal sets and plate tape - because we have a benefactor has donated three 3 D printers to our school.
Our Pre-K - 8 school is located in a very rural area with many of our students living well below the poverty level. Despite these facts, the students at our school perform well on the state tests, having the highest scores in our county. However, budget cuts have made it necessary for teachers and parents to provide many of the necessary supplies and other items that a classroom needs to provide not only lessons but enrichment activities.
The 6th-8th grade students that I work with are kind, caring young adults who are enthusiastic about science.
The students in my room are excited to experience new things, especially when they can learn in a hands on environment.
My Project
The 6th grade students at my school have been using a donated 3D printer to combine STEM projects with art. Each student recreates their name on a computer program and then print the design on the 3D printer. Because of the success of this pilot project, the same benefactors decided help fund two more 3D printers so that more students will have access to this technology.

Our 6th grade students are excited to be able to create 3D images of plant and animal cells with individual organelles. The 7th and 8th graders will use the 3D prints to study force and motion. Technology is the now and the future. For our students to have the ability to become proficient using advanced technology at such an early age is essential to their future. The funding that we are asking for will request the supplies that will be needed for students to use this technology in a more advanced way.
