My Students
Ask my students what is the most important tool in art and they will answer "my imagination".
I teach Art in three small elementary schools in a small rural school district in western Maine where there is limited exposure to the visual arts.
My K-8 students arrive in the classroom enthusiastic, eager and engaged in their creativity. They are learning to focus on the process of making art, which includes problem solving, taking risks, and not being afraid to make mistakes. This provides for greater individual creative learning and discovery.
My Project
My students enjoy working with their hands creating 3D art. Our project would be a further extension by combining art and 3D technology. Living in rural Maine they are not exposed to modern technology and many of them do not have the internet at home. However, we are fortunate enough to have access to a 3D printer and I would like to give them as much experience as possible with this technology. Students will create their own designs on the computer, and also be able to convert their drawings into 3D objects, like chess pieces, vases, simple push toys, logos, etc. Since I teach at three elementary schools covering grades K-8, I have a large number of students and we are in need of 3D filament and bearings for our push toys.
The students will learn about 3D printing, CAD (Computer aided design) and how art is connected with other disciplines such as technology (STEAM).
Furthermore, this technology is growing and having this type of experience will expose them to the possibilities of the future.
