Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have some diverse and wonderful students, ones I wouldn’t trade the world for. Kimbrough Middle School is a 25 year old campus in a high-poverty area, serving almost 4,000 students in grades 6th, 7th, and 8th. Over 60% of our students participate in the free or reduced-price lunch program. We are creating a new sense of family and community and serving a diverse population of students. Some see school as a world of possibilities, and I want to help them see the world from as many different perspectives as I can.
I show them that art is more than drawing a pretty picture.
I try to use art as a way for them to relax from the stresses of school, social society, home, etc. Creative thinking in art helps then in other classes, as well as their colligate and employment futures. Drawing, painting, and 3 dimensional art can help them think creatively as well express their emotions.
Art can open their eyes to the world outside of the classroom, and the infinite possibilities.
My Project
I want to introduce my students to the work of 3D printing. With our modern world and the fast movement of technology, 3D printers are getting easier to afford but they are still out of the reach of many families. I want to teach them a real world skill using Computer Aided Design (CAD)The 3d printers will allow them to see their creations print reality though a 3D printer.
The CAD skill is a one they can use in their adult life as a source of income, from designing or selling the finished products. These printers are used in the medical field, as well as engineering, and so many others.
