The Makerspace is a personal laboratory that gives students a unique knowledge base of lifelong skills and hobbies, problem solving and technology skills. On a typical day students may be designing, programming robots, or designing electrical circuits.
Our school is a 4K - 5 school that inspires 435 students to be engaged in their learning.
The staff is collaboratively working on incorporating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), with an emphasis on Design Thinking, into all that we do. Design Thinking is the confidence that everyone can be part of creating a more desirable future, and a process to take action when faced with a difficult challenge. This ties in with the Makerspace, they are "Infy Makers". Our hope is to give our students the tools they need to create, design, and invent which will further expand these skills: critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and innovation, communication, and collaboration.
My Project
Our students will create designs to solve a real world problem that they can implement at school or at home once it has been created on the 3D printer. The 3D printer lets our students be the creators of their own learning and teaches them that part of the design process may be failure and that is not only alright, but necessary to improve a product. Students are able to network with creators around the world through sites that allow students to upload their designs.
Our elementary students have incredible ideas.
3D printing gives us a relatively low cost way of bringing their design ideas to life. 3D printers turn our students into inventors. The design process with 3D printing is focused on process and gives students instant and valuable feedback as they can feel and touch their product and test it to see if it works.
