My Students

Everyday my students are engaged in challenges that require creativity, problem-solving and innovation. In the short time they've been in this STEM classroom they have become Makers! The challenge is teaching them the foundation of engineering without being able to feel or see their final product.

My kids are mostly Hispanic and African-American living in low-income neighborhoods with little access to extra-curricular activities outside of school.

In the classroom they are determined and eager to learn; often staying after school for tutoring and more time in the classroom. They love to have their voices, ideas and abilities recognized and thrive in any environment that lets them be unique.

My Project

This is a STEM classroom where my students learn the foundations to many different STEM fields. They are given a problem and work in teams to solve it using software, building materials and their imagination. A 3D printer will let them see their hard work through to fruition and allow them to test and modify their designs which is an integral part of STEM learning.

I wish that I could show you how their faces light up when we talk about the capabilities of modern 3D printing.

That is just one example of how I know this class is making a difference in their lives. Introducing them to STEM concepts and processes is a guarantee that our school, our families and our communities will benefit from their presence. They will become thinkers and solve problems we don't even know exist yet. They will become makers and show the world just what they are capable of.
