My students need 3D pens to add to our Makerspace. These pens would allow students to see their creations in 3D instead of just two dimensional drawings.
Our school is unique because we are a child centered school that prepares students to be lifelong learners and contributing members of a competitive society. We are located on the west side of Rockingham, NC in the Richmond County School District. This location is important to note because of the poor socioeconomic area in which we live. We educate Pre-k through 5th grade students with approximately 358 students in attendance.
The role of our library is that it is the hub of the school and where we model and emphasize the importance of becoming lifelong learners.
Libraries have to strive to be relevant in the 21st century learning environment and stay up to date with current trends in learning. The school library is not just about reading anymore, but a place to support and encourage its students to become lifelong learners and to know where to find the information they need whether it be through print or electronic resources.
My Project
The library is currently doing STEAM stations known as Makerspaces during library time for 3rd-5th grade students to use when they have their weekly library classes. I would like to enhance our Makerspace by adding 3D pens that will be used as a station for students to design and create. Each student will get a turn at each station.
These 3D pens will allow students to create through self-directed learning.
Students learn to think critically while creating things such as 3D models of buildings and formations, contraptions, inventions, and crafts, just to name a few. It will also give me the ability to tie in their their science and social studies curriculum by letting them create tangible objects for deeper understanding. Allowing students to play and create helps to personalize and demonstrate learning.
