Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each year our students bring home designs and housing projects to life but only on paper yet with pride and joy. This could be the year they get to display their work in 3D and promote and pitch designs to local architecture firms in our local community.
Our students are innovators and creators.
They only lack gadgets and tools to empower their vision. They are dreamers and want more for themselves to improve their community and education. 80% of our students receive free lunch and public assistance. They are not disadvantaged instead work harder to reach their goals. Many of them take advantage of the opportunities to participate in civic engagement by providing poorer communities with services through our community partners. Some travel out of the country to serve low income communities and others travel locally to help build community in other schools. The learning culture at our school is that learning goes beyond the walls of our building and in the community.
My Project
With a 3D printer and dynamic teacher, our students will be able to print their designs of housing projects that will improve the housing complexes in their area. In addition, they will be able to present their community designs to local community boards, city agencies for urban planning and local architecture firms. They will also get to learn the business side of architecture. The first step will be to display their 3D printed projects to the school, community and firms each year. We hope that the 3D printer manifests their work strong enough to compete for architecture internships and help change our local community.
With your donation, we hope to obtain this 3D printer to capture the hard work and designs of our future urban planners, community advocates and architects This access to technology will help our students dream past the walls of our school and into the field of architecture and community building.
