I have a class of 28 AP Biology students; the doctors, scientists, and engineers of our future. These students need current up to date materials to study. A 3D printer would allow my students to use new relevant ways of incorporating design with application. The power of inquiry!
We were making models of enzymes in class and watching youtube videos to get ideas. Some of my students found a video about 3D printers and we researched how they could be used in the classroom. It seems like a perfect idea for an AP Biology science classroom.
One of the foundations of a college board AP class is inquiry. A 3D printer would put the learning and creating in the students control. As we study different body systems, the students could create models of those systems to actual see how they would work.
In Their Own Words
Janaya, Carter and Gracie are leading this project. Our class will use the 3-D printer to make what we learn in class a reality. This project is so important to not only our school but our community. Our AP biology class is stressing how important it is to really understand the human body and how things are really put together.Because of this, we can't wait to get a 3-D printer. The 3-D printer will further our understanding of how the reactions in our body all come together to make our bodies function.
Bailey, Tyler and Carter will help bring this project to life. We can educate other students and teachers how to operate the 3-D printer and how to print our objects for classroom use. I will endlessly ponder on new things to print and apply in our learning. This machine gives a chance to bring more problems to life and for the love of design and science to be furthered. I can be a leader by helping teachers like my healthcare teachers who also runs our curriculum for AP.
I am very interested in the biology field, more specifically in the field of genetics. Since I cannot study the actual particles with the naked eye, I would like a 3-D version that I can interact with. It can help teach students and teachers alike who have disabilities and other problems to learn more efficiently in the classroom setting. In this community, we teach each other and try our best to learn from teachers.
