“My contention is that creativity now is as important in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status.”~ Sir Ken Robinson.
Our elementary public school is full of excited little people who can't wait to create.
We are always looking for new and exciting ways to keep their creativity challenged and stimulated.
I look for ways to expand my curriculum, engage my learners, and energize the classroom by integrating technology in innovative and collaborative ways.
I am trying to expand my art program by including media arts opportunities into our hands-on art-making experiences that give students a voice, a chance to take risks, to develop lasting skills, and grow their love for learning.
My Project
This grant will give my students the materials they need to design and build a 3D self-portrait from legos. We will explore symmetry, the placement & size of facial features, and work with a limited color palette using legos as a medium for art creation.
Designing lego self-portraits will give my art students the opportunity to construct and build in a physical and forgiving medium as they explore portraiture.
We are asking for enough baseplates and legos for all the students to make their own temporary portrait that will be photographed for their digital portfolios and displayed in the school. The lego supplies will be reused from year to year.
