Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title One school on the border between Arizona, California, and Mexico. My students are fourth, fifth, and sixth graders who are eager to learn! I am privileged to teach science and engineering, which is my passion.
My students love doing hands-on STEM projects!
I enjoy facilitating and watching my students use the scientific method and engineering design process in my class. They have created models of knee braces, levees, prosthetic limbs, membranes, and solar ovens. They have experimented with different incline angles, types of bridges, and paper airplanes.
My Project
I am hoping for a 3D printer, filaments and tools for my students to use to create projects. I have some great investigations planned for them, such as allowing them to create 3D fossil molds in science class, making plant, animal, and people shapes to label structures and systems in the organisms and explain their functions. I also plan to allow them to engineer cars that they can design and print with the 3D materials, and then race and test them for speed and efficiency. The materials I am requesting will provide amazing opportunities for my students!
These STEM materials will make the science and engineering come alive for students in my classroom!
They will be able to do things that they have never done before. The technology is amazing, and has been something we could only dream of having. Receiving this gift would bring their learning to a whole new level of STEM fun! I hope that even more of them will be inspired to be scientists, engineers, and problem-solvers of the future!
