Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My vision is to bring enriching experiences to my school through STEM, starting in the lower grades and building up through high school. Our students deserve the world, and it is our job to place it within hands reach.
We are a school with students, ranging from grades kindergarten through twelfth grade, from varying experiences and backgrounds in surrounding, mostly rural communities.
Our learners find a common interest in STEM and being able to do things hands-on.
We will be able to bridge connections with our students to what careers they can do and what problems they can solve. We place a heavy emphasis on STEM, creating solutions to problems, and making real world applications in the process.
My Project
Students in our engineering classes are building and creating within CAD software to produce solutions to problems they are presented with within our curriculum. The addition of 3D printers will allow them to print off their designs and see how well they address the problem.
This ability to brainstorm solutions, evaluate the best one, and then create a 3D rendering with CAD software will be enhanced with the next step of being able to actually print off their designs.
Students can physically hold their creations in their hand. This is a powerful step in the engineering design process for our future engineers!
Adding 3D printers across our campus will enable our students to begin 3D design in elementary and continue to build on and refine their skills through middle and high school. Additional 3D printing capabilities also enables us to create cross-curricular projects that encompass other core subjects for an even bigger learning impact.
